Aroma Therapy for Your Bath

Lavender Oil

Aroma Therapy for Your Bath …

You finally get the chance to soak in your bath so don’t miss the opportunity to take it to the next level with some essential oils.

There are a few things to remember.  First, essential oils are concentrated and just squeezing a few drops into the water will not give you the best distribution.   The concentrated oils may even irritate your skin, since oil and water don’t mix, and the undiluted concentrated drops will adhere to your skin.   Diluting the essential oil in a carrier oil, such as coconut, olive, sunflower or Jojoba oil, to disperse the oil drops will help.  The usual ratio is 5-25 drops of essential oil to 15mL carrier oil.  Pouring this mixture into the bath while the water is running will spread the essence while releasing the aroma throughout the bathroom.   The warm water will open your pours and help your body absorb the oil mixture.

Be aware that some aroma therapy oils are irritating to the skin so do not use them as a bath oil. Lemon grass, Peppermint, Cinnamon, or Thyme are not ideal for this purpose. Citrus oils can make skin highly sensitive to the sun so avoid the sun for 72 hours after using them in the bath.

Preferred oils which work well in the bath are Lavender, Chamomile, Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Ylang Ylang, and Frankincense. They can help with immune system support, stress relief, reduced inflammation, sleep quality, and hormone balance, as well as making you and your bathroom smell wonderful.

When it’s all over but the clean up, think Baking Soda, Epson Salt or Himalayan Sea Salt as a scrub around the tub and end with a quick rinse to remove any slippery, oily residue.

… Enjoy!
